Reiki is a Japanese word for “Light/Universal Life Force Energy”. It is a touch therapy (also known as "laying on of hands") which utilizes static positions on a client versus the long strokes of Swedish massage. The practioner's hands are place near or lightly touching the client's body in a series of movements for several minutes. Generally, the client rarely "feels" the practioner's hands, but may experience one or more of the following sensations: heat/warmth, electricity, tingling, weightlessness, serenity, or giddiness (this is in no means a complete list).

and Reiki. At Laki, all people are welcome to experience total
relaxation.
The act of touching another to comfort and relieve distress is a basic human instinct. What is the first thing someone does when they injure themselve? They move their hand to the injury! What does a child want when they get a "boo-boo"? Someone to kiss it or hold them! The simple act of touch is a means of conveying healing and is the basis for all bodywork modalities--especially massage therapy.
Reiki energy is considered a "safe" energy--it can not be overdosed or violate an individual's free will. It accelerates the healing process, relieves pain, stops bleeding, relaxes the client, strengthens immune system, and restores the body to a more natural balance of energy. Other results from a Reiki session include slower respirations, lowered blood pressure, and emotional calming. Reiki promotes only healthy growth and is not a system of religious beliefs. In fact, Reiki is an excellent way to become aware of one’s spiritual nature regardless of faith or religious thought.
Although Reiki provides some phenomenal results, it is not a substitute for standard medical care. It is a complementary treatment for Western Medicine. If an individual is using Reiki for a chronic condition, the licensed physician should be made aware of the Reiki sessions so he or she can closely monitor any changes to the prescribed treatment plan. On the subject of terminal illness, it is important to note that Reiki will not prevent someone from passing. However, it is extremely useful in easing the process and is a great comfort for grieving family and friends.
A Reiki session is performed much like massage on a table; however, clothing is not removed except for your shoes. It can be performed in a chair if the client is unable to lie on his/her back. The flow of Reiki energy penetrates easily through blankets as well as clothing. A typical session lasts between 45 and 60 minutes for the entire body. As with massage, it is important to drink plenty of water after a receiving a Reiki treatment due to the increase in toxin elimination.
